  15. 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil, for cooking the egg(s)

  18. 1 egg, fried sunny side up
  19. 1/4 stalk spring onions, finely sliced, optional
  20. Sprinkle of white sesame seeds, optional

Instructions to make Kimchi fried (with bacon and a fried egg)

  1. Add oil and butter to the wok or pan. On medium heat, add the onions and sauté until almost translucent. Add the garlic and spring onions cook for a minute continuously stirring. Then add the bacon slices and sauté the meat until cooked. Stir frequently to prevent the bacon burning.
  2. Once bacon has fully cooked, add another knob of butter and add the kimchi and stir to incorporate all of the ingredients. Cook for about 2 minutes. Then reduce heat to medium low and add the rice. Mix everything thoroughly together to evenly coat the rice with the kimchi.
  3. Add sesame oil, kimchi juice and gochujang (optimal). Stir everything to incorporate all of the flavours. Reduce the heat to low and cover with a lid. Cook for another 5 minutes, stir the rice one more time and turn off the heat. Cover wok with the lid to keep hot.
  4. To make the fried egg, add cooking oil to a small pan on high heat. Once oil is hot enough crack an egg and add into the pan. Cook the egg to preference (I like my egg yolk runny).
  5. Place rice in a shallow bowl or plate and the fried egg on top. Garnish with spring onions and sprinkle sesame seeds (optional). Serve and eat immediately while hot.
